In the past week, I watched PenPot tutorial videos. I began looking at my evaluation of the Podman preferences section through the lens of PattternFly guidelines. M and I met with the Podman desktop team to try to understand their vision for the preferences section as well as the application itself.
I studied PatternFly's guidelines on navigation and icons. I learned that the current dropdown navigation was adequate according to PatternFly's guidelines, but I thought it looked messy. So I used my newly learned PenPot skills to resketch the navigation (my sketch is on the right side).
I learned that icons should be centre-aligned horizontally, so I made sure to do that with the angle-right icon. I know as per PatternFly guidelines, icons should be 10px but I didn't know how to do that in PatternFly so I just made it as small as I could. I sketched the section to indicate that on-hover and on-click should be made visibly distinct.
We had two meetings with the Podman desktop team to understand their vision for the application and more specifically, what they wanted for the preferences area. I came to understand that the project while quite developed its still in its infancy, and there will be a lot of significant and positive changes over time.

The preferences area has not changed much in the Podman Desktop version 0.0.5, so I can still continue making sketches. From the meetings we had with the team last week, I realise I need to help rethink the preferences area. I need to do some research on Docker and other containerization tools. But first I have been assigned a task to redesign the help area. This will be my first port of call this week. My tasks are becoming undefined, it will be good to get some clarity on my next steps.
We meet with the Podman Desktop team again in two weeks.
